La Chatelaine: Upper Arlington: Part 1

History/Background:

Finding the history on a property can sometimes prove to be more difficult than you would think. We came across this problem for this specific location. Through our own research, plus the help of the Upper Arlington Historical Society, we didn’t end up with a lot to go on.

What we did find out is that this property (along with much of the area) was owned by a prominent pioneer family (Lakin) in the early 1800’s, and stayed within the family for generations.

Sometime during the mid to late 1900’s, the property changed owners, and would eventually become an antique store, as well as a boutique.

In 1991, the property was bought again, and then renovated into the La Chatelaine that we know today. Note: La Chatelaine currently has 3 properties.

Claims:

There have been claims of the Paranormal at this location for much of La Chatelaines history. Early experiences include radios turning on/off without batteries or being plugged in, as well as sightings of a candle floating down a hall on its own, and then vanishing. More recent activity include employees seeing a “Woman in White” sitting on a patio chair (usually in the afternoon), and then disappearing suddenly; along with hearing whispers in their ears during work. An employee has also mentioned that he often sees what looks like shadows moving in the bar area.

On one occasion, an employee came in to work late in the night to start baking for the next day. He had swept and mopped the area, and then started on the dough. Another employee came in hours later, and noticed something strange on the floor by the back door. Some of the flour had fallen onto the floor, and in the flour were 2 clear footprints, which seemed to be walking toward the back door. At the time, there were only 2 employees in the entire restaurant, and of course they both had shoes on. They quickly took a picture (see attached).

Investigators for the Night:

Mark, Kayla, Mandy, and Jerry

The Investigation:

Once the tour, meeting with the owners, and setup was completed, we got straight to work. We always go into Investigations trying to debunk or replicate activity to see if it is man-made or Paranormal in nature. We split the team, with Mark staying at Home Base to monitor cameras, and the rest of the group starting the Investigation in a sitting area by the bar. We did an EVP session (electronic voice phenomenon) and unfortunately did not catch anything. We then moved into the back kitchen area and kept doing EVP sessions. Other than a few odd noises (most likely normal restaurant noise) we weren’t catching anything. We regrouped at Home base, and decided to try a Sprit Box Session. A Sprit Box is a device that filters through AM radio stations very quickly, so most of what you hear is static noise. The theory is that a spirit can manipulate the stations to create words and interact with whoever is listening to the Sprit Box. To achieve this, one of the team members will be blindfolded, and will listen to the Sprit Box with noise-cancelling headphones on; and will say whatever they happen to hear through the Spirit Box as the rest of the team asks questions. Unfortunately, we were unable to get any concrete responses through the Spirit Box during this session.

With that, we decided that since we hadn’t had any experiences or interactions since arriving, we packed up our gear and called it a night.

Evidence:

Unfortunately, for this investigation, we were unable to catch any Paranormal Activity. This happens more often than you would think! Not having activity doesn’t necessarily mean that a site does not have activity, we just couldn’t catch it this time.

Debunked:

We were not able to repeat any of the claims that the owners had shared with us, so at this time we have not debunked any of the claims. But, our investigation will most likely be ongoing with the many locations of La Chatelaine, and we hope to one day have answers to the claims made throughout the years!

Rohs Opera House: Kentucky: Part 4

History/Background/Claims:

This was our 4th time investigating at this location, and we were all excited to be back. The last time we were able to go was back in 2020, right before the first lockdown period. If you need a refresher on the history of this location, be sure to get caught up with our other 3 parts for the Rohs Opera House.

Team Members for the Night:

Mark, Kayla, and Mandy

The Investigation:

Since we have been to this location many times in the past, our equipment setup went fairly quickly. The only change this time was that the renovations are nearly completed in the entire building, and so that opened up a couple of new areas for us to explore. The third floor (which served as the original Opera House balcony) is open to investigators now, and we were excited to see what we could find up there.

We started our Investigation on the first level, and went straight to the Auditorium. We started with the usual EMF sweep (electromagnetic field) and EVP session (electronic voice phenomenon). While we did have some spikes in our EMF readings in a few places throughout the Auditorium, we weren’t able to document anything else in that area. Because of this, we have to rule those readings out (most likely due to electronics in the Theatre).

Since we weren’t getting any activity on the first floor, we moved to the second floor, and repeated what we did in the Auditorium. The second floor houses the Balcony for the Auditorium, as well as the Aeolian Hall (which served as the original Opera House Stage/Auditorium). The first time we had investigated in this area, we were able to catch an EVP that we believe answered a question asked by one of our Team Members; so we hoped to get a response this time as well. Unfortunately, we had no luck here either.

We decided to head up to the third floor, which was new to us. Renovations are still under way in this area, but it was still so cool to see such history in the room. Old paintings and décor are still visible on the walls; and while we didn’t get any interactions on this level either, it was still awesome to see this bit of history.

Evidence:

While we weren’t able to have any personal experiences during the night, or catch any evidence while reviewing, we still had a fun time! A huge part of being on a Paranormal Team are cases just like this, where you don’t get anything. And that’s ok, we can’t make things happen on command after all. Until next time Rohs!

La Chatelaine: Worthington: Part 2

History/Background/Claims

This was our second investigation at this location, so for information on the History and Background, make sure to check out our first Investigation Report.

Investigators for the Night

Mark, Kayla, Mandy, and Jerry

The Investigation

We allowed a few guests to start off the investigation with us, including the restaurants owner, Charlotte, her son, and a member of the local Historical Society (and descendant of the properties previous owners) John Snouffer, to name a few.

Typically during an investigation, only those on our team will be allowed to participate (for many reasons). But, on occasion, we do allow those who are involved in the location to investigate along with us (hoping that whatever entity may be present will be more willing to interact). So once setup was complete, we started the investigation.

We started by sending one group into the basement area for an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) session. In the group was Mark, Mandy, Jerry, Charlotte, her son, and John. During their EVP session, we weren’t able to catch anything on audio or video, but a loud bang was heard by those in the basement. While we couldn’t find a definite cause for this noise, we cannot say that it was Paranormal without further evidence and debunking techniques.

The group finished up their EVP session and joined the rest of us in the main restaurant. We decided to then attempt a Spirit Box session, since we had so much luck with this technique our first time at this location. (Make sure to check out our first investigation report for all the details!)

A spirit box is a device that filters through AM radio stations and generates a static noise. The theory is that an entity can use the device to form words or sentences to try and communicate with us. During these sessions, one of the team members is blindfolded and listens to the Spirit Box using noise cancelling headphones, while the rest of the team asks questions in the hopes that an entity will respond. For this session, Kayla was listening to the Spirit Box while the rest of the group was asking questions. When starting a session like this we will first introduce everybody in the room to any potential entities and then start asking some questions. Once introductions are over we then move on to try to figure out who the entity is, how long they’ve been in the location, why they’re in the location etc. This session was pretty quiet compared to the first investigation, and we weren’t getting a lot of responses at first. However, one response we did get was, “I’m not talking”. After hearing this response we tried a few more times to get an entity to interact with us or answer questions from us, and we were unable to get any concrete answers. This was pretty shocking for us as a group, because during our first investigation the Spirit Box was a really helpful tool, and we had a very interesting conversation with who we believe to be Mr. Bunn; so we were expecting a lot more answers through this session. For whatever reason we weren’t getting a lot of responses, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. Could it be that there were too many people in the restaurant during this investigation? Could this entity be someone other than Mr. Bunn and they just didn’t want to talk to us? These are some questions that we will have going into our next investigation at this location.

Once we finished up with our Spirit Box session we decided to send all of our guests home for the night while our team continued for a little while longer. Throughout this time we tried a couple of other techniques to see if we could get any activity now that the restaurant was a little quieter; however we still weren’t getting any responses, so we decided to end our investigation and pack up for the night.

Evidence

Short of some personal experiences from the evening, and what happened during the Spirit Box session, we did not end up catching any concrete evidence during the night. Even so, all in all we still had a good night. If you would like to see our Spirit Box session that we did that night make sure to check out our YouTube channel, and be sure to subscribe for new videos and live feeds!

Debunked

Since we did not catch any evidence for this investigation, we weren’t able to debunk any of the claims during the night. But, our investigation here is still ongoing and we hope to get some answers to the owners questions.

La Chatelaine: Worthington: Part 1

History/Background

We were able to find an extensive history on this property, by our own searching along with the help of the local Historical Society and current property owners. In 1803, the plot was purchased by James Kilbourn and Asahel Hart. Years later in 1817, it was sold to John Snow for $1,800 (Snow owned a local Drug Store nearby). The property was kept in the Snow family for generations, and was then sold to Claude Longenecker in 1917, who owned a Dental Practice near the property. Part of this plot was later leased to Stephen Snouffer starting in 1928, which is when the first structure was built on the property (Snouffer Brothers Garage and Filling Station). In 1967 the property was purchased by Paul Kurtzman (of Kurtzman-Shuter Motors) who had been overseeing the Snouffer Brothers Garage. After this, there is a bit of a gap where we couldn’t find exactly when the Garage closed, but we do know that during this time a “Snouffer Dry Cleaners” along with a Rolls Royce Shop were functioning at some point. In 1992 the property was bought by the owners of La Chatelaine, and they would finish demolishing/rebuilding in 1993.

Claims

There are many claims of the Paranormal at this location, and have been happening since renovations began. One notable experience happened one evening during the renovation process. Two employees were in the women’s restroom painting, and there was no one else in the building at the time. They both heard a sliding/shuffling noise, and stopped painting to get a better listen. Even with both of them stopped and motionless, the noise continued. They opened the door and looked out into the hall, where several high chairs had been moved (by what?) from around the corner at the other end of the hall. That was enough for both employees, and they left for the night.

A common occurrence (at all times of the day) is coffee and tea tins flying off shelves toward the dining area. There was also an instance where the lights above the bar were seen (and caught on video) flickering on and off without a known cause. These occurrences were things that we definitely wanted to look into during the investigation.

Another common occurrence is sightings or activity from “Mr. Bunn”, an entity that the staff has named (due to most activity happening around the Bunn coffee machines). Over the years, many people (staff and customers alike) have claimed sightings of a man wearing blue coveralls standing near the coffee station. On one of these occurrences, an employee was closing up the restaurant for the night (and was the only one inside at the time). She was closing out one of the registers, and saw a man in coveralls out of the corner of her eye. Thinking it must be her boyfriend coming to pick her up after her shift, she told him she was almost done. Then it hit her, her boyfriend was currently out of state for work. In shock, she looked up to see a figure standing before her, and then vanish suddenly. She immediately left the restaurant that night.

With all these claims, we wanted to try to get as many questions answered for the owners and staff that we could.

Investigators for the Night

Mark, Kayla, Mandy, and Jerry

The Investigation

Once we met with the owner and got a tour of the building, we sat down and came up with a game plan. We started setting up all of our equipment so we could get straight to work. We always try to cover as much area as we can with our cameras, and we especially try to cover all of the areas that we know have claims to them. For instance we had a camera covering the bar area to try to catch the lights flickering, along with cameras covering the drink station where the coffee and tea tins have been seen flying off the shelves.

To start off the investigation we split into two groups; Mark and Jerry went down to the detached basement to start with an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon )session, while Kayla and Mandy stayed in the main restaurant and started their EVP session by the bar area. When we do our EVP sessions, we usually have one group member listening live through the audio recorder while we ask questions; that way if we do happen to catch a response we can hear it in real time. These sessions went on for a little while and then we decided to regroup and go over any experiences that we may have had. The team met back up in the main restaurant sitting area, and since we hadn’t had much luck in the basement or in the bar area we decided to all sit down by the beverage station to see if we could get any responses there. This area is where Mr Bunn is often seen or experienced.

We decided to try a quick Spirit Box session to see if we could get any responses this way. Depending on the activity of a location and the type of entity that we are dealing with, sometimes they are more receptive to one technique over another, so we try a lot of different things while investigating to get the best responses. In a Spirit Box session, a device is used that filters through AM radio stations at a very fast pace and generates mostly static noise. The theory is that an entity can use the Spirit Box and grab words from the radio stations that are being filtered through and piece those together to communicate to anyone listening to the box. During our sessions we have one team member blindfolded and listening to the Spirit Box with noise-cancelling headphones on, and if they hear any words or sentences they will call it out. The rest of the group will be asking questions and trying to get responses.

At first the session was going very slowly, and we were only getting a couple one word answers here and there (which is fairly normal). At one point we were told to “go away”; we just let the entity know again that we had been invited by the owner, and were only here to talk. After that, the entity become much more talkative, and was able to have a great conversation with us for over 2 hours (the longest Spirit Box session we had ever had!). Throughout the session we were able to learn a lot about this entity. We asked multiple times for a name, age, gender etc, and through the Spirit Box Kayla heard, “I’m Mr. Bunn!”. We asked him if he knew where he was, and he replied, “It’s a bakery”. He even offered us some free bread! When we asked what he thought of the owner he replied, “She’s lovely”. We had such a great conversation throughout the entire session, and to write down everything that happened would probably take hours. But, if you’d like to hear some of what happened please check out the attached audio clips and take a listen for yourself!

Evidence

Short of the Spirit Box Session, the only other piece of evidence we caught during the night was a short video clip. We had a couple of cameras covering the beverage area where Mr Bunn is typically seen or experienced. One of these cameras focuses on the pop machines at the front of this area, and we did catch a shadow pass by the pop machine and actually block out some of the light. The team has reviewed this piece of footage many times, trying to figure out an exact cause of why this happened. Could it be the reflection of a team member walking by? Lights from a passing car? Next time we go investigate this location, we are going to try a couple of techniques to see if we can recreate this ourselves.

Debunked

With all that we experienced and potential evidence captured throughout the night, we weren’t able to debunk or disprove any of the claims of activity. That being said, the investigation left us with more questions that need answers, and we cannot wait to go back for a second investigation of this location.

Rohs Opera House: Part 3

With times being so uncertain right now with the Coronavirus, the team decided to go with some familiar “hunting grounds”. So, we once again packed our bags to head down to the Rohs Opera House for Part 3.

We decided to take as small a group as possible, just to keep the germs to a minimum! (We don’t want anyone getting ill). So for this trip it was Mark, Mandy, and Kayla. Just because we know this place fairly well, doesn’t mean that there isn’t more to uncover. With some new equipment to try, we started the set up.

Currently, the Opera House is under some much needed renovations to help restore the building to its former glory. These renovations are happening mainly in the Auditorium and the Balcony, with other minor touch ups here and there. This excited us for a couple of reasons; the Opera House has such rich history that we cant wait to see restored, and typically renovations mean increased paranormal activity. With this in mind, we really wanted to try investigating in some new areas, along with the old standbys.

We placed our cameras in the Auditorium, Balcony, Aeolian Room, the Segregated Room, and the Basement. With the setup complete, we headed up to the Aeolian Room to try out our new equipment. The new technology is actually an App called EchoVox. If you haven’t tried it, we definitely recommend it! The EchoVox is similar to a Spirit Box that many Investigators use already, but, instead of scanning radio signals or using a word bank, this app uses a sound bank from other languages. This means that there is no English at all through the app. The entities can use the sound banks to form words/sentences to communicate with us.

We had some success in the Aeolian Room, and managed to hear the name Robert spoken while trying to communicate. But, we weren’t getting much upstairs. We tried other rooms upstairs without much luck either. Towards the end of the night, we ended up in the Auditorium near the stage, and started up the app once again. That’s when we really started to get some good responses.

We asked if there was anyone with us, and we got the name Ed multiple times. We asked if he remembered our names, and one by one he said them! “Mark” “Mandy” “Kayla”. We then asked if he could name the items that we had put on the stage, our reply was “ball”. (We had brought a blue ball and placed it on the stage with masking tape put around it so that we could tell if it moved during the night.) We tried engaging Ed to move the ball, and were met with the reply “watch, 3...2...1..” The ball never did move, but that reply was amazing nonetheless!

The replies died down (no pun intended), and we packed up and headed back home. We are excited to review this evidence, and will definitely be using EchoVox in our future investigations

Mansfield Fire Museum

During this investigation we partnered up with From the Shadows Podcast and had two guest investigators. The history within the Mansfield Fire Museum was way more that we expected. The exhibits are amazing. The museum is broken up into many different sections.

The area where we had the most activity was the exhibit that had a coffin, church pew and part of a jail cell from the Mansfield Reformatory. Back in this area the EMF detector kept going off, people felt temperature fluctuations, and had a feeling of being watched. One of the experiences we had was when we did a Q&A EVP session. The spirit answered questions by causing the EMF meter to go off.

While half of the group was on one end of the museum, the other half of the group was investigating the 911 memorial exhibit on the other side. By the 911 memorial exhibit one of our investigators was overwhelmed with the feelings of sadness and worry. Several of the investigators felt the temperature drop. We also heard what sounded like a knocking noise down the hallway towards the training room.

During a short break we discussed experiences. We split the teams up again and started out into the museum. Our goal this time was to debunk any experiences that we had during the first half of the investigation.

While investigating near the jail cell we discovered that there was a strong EMF reading that was about 3 feet off the floor. It was constant and could be followed all the way out into one of the main rooms before it disappeared. We weren’t able to determine where the EMF reading was coming from. We had a feeling of being watched the entire time we were in that area. We also checked out the old candy shop exhibit. There are claims that the former owner still roams within the shop. During that part of the investigation we did have temperature fluctuations that we couldn’t explain. We were able to read the temperature by using a FLIR Thermal camera and it did show that the temperature was nearly 10 degrees cooler in that area when the investigators said they felt the temperature drop.

On the other side of the museum, the investigators didn’t have any activity. They tried with EMF meters and by doing an EVP session. Still no luck.

After hours investigating, we decided to pack up what equipment we had and head home. We spent hours over the next few days reviewing potential evidence.

This is definitely a location that we will go back to.

Rohs Opera House: Part 2

After out first investigation at the Rohs Opera House we decided a second visit needed to happen. We had some things happen that we couldn’t fully explain during the first visit and wanted to see if we could build on those experiences. We went back to the Rohs Opera House, but this time brought more investigators. Nearly our entire team was there along with guest investigators Jason Massey and Jerry Muniz from “From the Shadows Podcast”.

After setting up cameras in the hot spots we divided up into 3 teams. Team 1 was Aaron, Jason, and Jerry. Team 2 was Mandy, Kayla, and Johnny. Team 3 was Mark, Maryann, and Kyle. Team 1 went into the auditorium to begin their EVP session. Team 2 went upstairs to the Aeolian room and Team 3 stayed at home base to watch cameras.

Team 1 seemed to have the most activity during this part of the night. During the EVP session they claimed to hear noises and was not able to debunk them. Jason had his first major paranormal experience. He was sitting in one of the chairs and was asking questions. His EMF detector began to go off as if the spirit was trying to respond to his questions. He heard footsteps and then described what he said felt like a spirit passing through his body.

Team 2 started an EVP session in the Aeolian room. There wasn’t a lot of visible activity, but they did manage to catch some EVPs. They also learned that with Team 1 down in the auditorium, they captured some auto contamination. We had to go back over the audio closely after the investigation so that we could figure out what parts were contamination.

Team 3 sat patiently waiting for the other two teams to return to home base. Once they returned, Team 3 was told about the experiences that were had. We took a short break.

Kyle decided to test his luck with the paranormal and explore the Auditorium on his own. The rest of us watched the cameras and listened to the audio closely during his investigation. Unfortunately, the opera house was silent so he came back to home base so we could try out next experiment.

We decided to venture out into the opera house as a large team. We thought maybe a bigger group in one area would be a trigger for spirits that haunt the location since at one time it was a very active opera house. We started in the Aeolian room, moved to the hallway, and then the balcony. The night had gone quiet…or so we thought. While sitting in the balcony one of the claims we discussed was that people hear whistling coming from the stage. We decided to test that claim to see if we could get any kind of response. We whistled and to our surprise we heard a response. This wasn’t an echo. This was a deliberate response coming from the stage. We did this several times and continued to have responses to our whistles. During this activity, Maryann mentioned feeling like she was touched on the arm. This happened twice. She decided to move over by where Mark was sitting. A few minutes later Mark felt something touch his arm at the same time Maryann felt something touch her shoulder. We were not able to debunk this. With excitement high and the early morning hours quickly creeping up on us, we decided to call it a night.

Before leaving, Maryann, Kayla, and Mark went up to segregation room. This is the part of the balcony that had been made available for African Americans. The room had its own water fountain and bathroom. The view was awful. There is a slight opening in the wall so that if you are lucky enough to have one of the few good seats you would be able to see most of the stage. The other seats were blocked by a wall. We decided to try to do an EVP session in that room even though we knew the audio would most likely be contaminated by the heater. During our EVP session all 3 members of the team felt overwhelmed with sadness at the same time. We tried to get answers to questions, but with the heater running, it was too noisy to hear anything on the audio.

After leaving the segregation room we decided to call it quits. We packed up our gear, said our goodbyes, and headed back home to get some sleep before reviewing the audio and video that we collected.

You can hear about parts of our investigation on From the Shadows Podcast.

Rohs Opera House: Part 1

History/Background:

The Rohs Opera House (pronounced ROSS) was built in 1871, and was originally named The Aeolian Hall. Years later, in 1941, the building was expanded upon, and renamed to Rohs Opera House. This building has such rich history from its beginning, and has been a staple in Cynthiana since its opening. Upon hearing about this opera house, the team was excited about the opportunity to investigate.

Claims:

There are many claims of hauntings and sightings throughout the buildings history; so much so that it is now fairly well-known to investigators states away. I will touch on the most prevalent claims, and the claims that we were able to debunk, or compare with personal experiences/recordings.

Auditorium: This area is where most of the sightings take place. There have been many reports of whistling being heard throughout the building, coming from the Auditorium. Many people over the years have said to have seen or heard children running up and down the aisles during shows. There are also many reports of (only women) feeling someone (or something) stroking their hair during performances. There are also many accounts around the stage; shadowy figures have been seen darting across the stage, as well as hearing footsteps. At the back of the Auditorium, there is a small walkway that separates the seats from the restrooms. A “Woman in White”, as well as a shadow figure have been seen walking from the restrooms, through the wall, and then vanishing.

Aeolian Room: There has been reports of a man standing/pacing in the corner of the room. There are also reports of the chairs moving position in this room. The door to this room has also been heard opening and shutting when no one is upstairs (this particular door is very loud, and can be heard almost anywhere in the opera house).

THE INVESTIGATION:

We met with the owner, Roger, who gave us a tour, the keys, and the best of luck. We discussed where we would like cameras to be set up, then started bringing in the equipment.

While setting up equipment to start our investigation, we all three heard a whistle. It was long and clear, piercing the air. Startled, and excited, we quickly grabbed our recorders, and rushed into the Auditorium. Mark tried a few times to get whatever had gotten our attention to make another noise, but we had no luck. Disappointed, but exhilarated, we went back to our equipment to quickly finish setting up. The rest of the set up time when smoothly, for the most part. The building is old, and technology has changed so much over the years, it took some time to figure out how to best hook our equipment up. We set up our cameras on the ground level, and went upstairs to add cameras to the Aeolian Room, the Balcony, and the upstairs hallway. On multiple occasions, and throughout the beginning of the night, we all three felt a similar sensation while heading up the stairs into the hallway (which will take you either to the Balcony, or the Aeolian Room). Mark had the sensation first; towards the top of the steps he became lightheaded and dizzy. Mandy and I had a similar sensation on another trip up the same steps, in the same area. We both felt a little dizzy, and also felt pressure on our chests, like we were being pushed back. As the night went on, these sensations eventually stopped.

Once all of the equipment was set up, it was time to get to the fun part, the actual investigation. We decided that Mandy, along with myself, would go out first to do some EVP work in the Aeolian Room (circa 1871).  That’s where the fun began, we just didn’t know it at the time. The claim in this specific room is that a shadowy figure of a man is seen standing/pacing in a corner of the room. We also learned that chairs have been seen moving slightly in the room. Once we were settled in our seats, recorder ready, we started asking the typical questions: Is anyone here? Would anyone like to spend some time with us? How long have you been here? Etc...

In the midst of introductions and playing twenty questions with our nameless friend, we heard what sounded like rustling papers, and soft footsteps coming from the corner where the alleged “shadow man” likes to pace. These sounds eventually died down, and we decided to leave the room, allowing our possible entity to have some privacy. I left another recorder in this room, hoping to catch the “shadow man” after we left the area.

We then headed to the balcony. The claims for this area are few and far between. Occasionally, people (mostly women) have felt or heard children in the aisles or seats during performances. We took our seats in separate areas of the Balcony, and started up another EVP session. We both thought we heard some rustling on one of the sound tables in the far corner, but nothing more than that. I had an experience that we cant quite explain. We sat, mostly in silence, waiting and listening for an entity to come forward. I felt a sudden chill on the back of my neck (keep in mind that the building doesn’t have any AC), I chalked it up to nothing at the time, after all, this was my first investigation, and my excitement level was high to say the least. A few minutes passed, and as I sat, head bowed, listening for something, anything, the chair directly to my right let out a shrill squeak. I whipped my head around, along with Mandy: we spotted nothing, and made a note to check the video recording later. We stayed a little while longer, then wrapped up and regrouped at the lobby. After reviewing the audio and recordings around that time, unfortunately nothing was spotted by the group. Still, it was an interesting experience.

We left the Balcony and headed back down to the lobby to regroup; it was decided that Mark and I would go out next. We headed up to the hallway (mentioned above). We did a quick EVP session, along with an EMF meter; without any luck. Things had died down (no pun intended) it seemed. We then headed down into the Auditorium. We sat in the front row for while, asking some questions, and trying to get a response. We didn’t have any luck at this point, but stayed in the hopes that something would come forward: and something did. A flash of white flew over the stage; at first it looked like a light had caught in the reflection of a watch. It happened again and agin, starting and finishing in different places each time. Finally, we caught a glimpse of what it was; a bat! While it wasn’t a ghostly presence that we were hoping for, the bat showing itself helped us to understand and debunk some of the noises that people had reported hearing. After all, this is why Investigators do what they do; gather evidence, debunk everything THEY can, and then whatever you are left with is the unexplained. Once the bat was spotted, anything we would potentially catch on audio wouldn’t be credible, so we went back to the lobby.

We decided to give the Aeolian Room one last chance. Mark and Mandy went up to do one more EVP session before we ended the night and started to pack up. Nothing happened during that session, apart from the fluttering of bat wings heard in a closed off corner of the room. Which, again, isn’t necessarily what we came for, but was an interesting find nonetheless. All in all, it was an interesting night, and we are all very excited to go back to Rohs again in a few short weeks.

EVIDENCE: Unfortunately, we didn’t catch much in the way of evidence during this investigation. Other than our personal experiences (which were interesting if nothing else) we only caught a few audio recordings that are credible. In most of these, what sounds like footsteps can be heard (these are from the recorder that was left on a table alone in the Aeolian Room) when no one was on the second floor, let alone in this room. The only other piece of solid evidence found on this investigation is a possible voice answering a question during an EVP session in the Aeolian Room.

DEBUNKED: Since not much was caught on camera or in audio, we didn’t debunk much. Although, once we found out that there are bats in the building, that can explain a lot of rustling and noises that have been heard at night.

All in all, it was an interesting night, and we are excited to go back for part two! Stay tuned until then!
